Responsible Travel in Thailand

Responsible travel can be defined in many different ways but at the heart of the concept is a desire for tourism to result in positive outcomes rather than negative, for everyone involved. It is a concept that takes into account environmental, cultural and social factors.

Phu Phiang practices a fair trade-inspired form of responsible tourism that aims to create fairer and more sustainable tourism in Thailand. We wish to provide exciting holidays for small groups of people who want to learn about and interact with the local people and artisans of Thailand. In doing so we have a special responsibility to ensure that this activity does not harm the people and communities we visit in any way. Rather, we hope that our work in Thailand will contribute to community development and economic sustainability in the areas we visit. Perhaps even more so, we hope that bringing visitors eager to learn about the cultural heritage and craftwork of a village will spur an appreciation for this in the people themselves; possibly diminishing the desire to give up important traditions in favor of more modern, Western lifestyles.
